Behind The Scenes at Our Annual Sherwin-Williams Finish Review

As far as the painted world is concerned, you can’t do any better than Sherwin-Williams. They are the gold standard of the industry and, along with their instantly recognizable brand name, the numbers speak for themselves. For example, Sherwin-Williams’ color stylists have 142 years of combined industry experience; that’s six generations! Indeed, Sherwin-Williams knows paint the way Woodmont knows cabinets. So when we partnered with Sherwin-Williams in 2009, it was a match made in heaven. Each year thereafter, Woodmont Cabinetry has conducted an annual color review at the Sherwin-Williams Global Color and Design Center to ensure that we stay at the forefront of the industry when it comes to color trends, factory processes, and environmentally friendly practices:

Color Trends

The Sherwin-Williams Global Color and Design Center is located in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Sherwin-Williams team conducts continuous research at The Global Design Center (GCDC) to stay in touch with the latest color trends. In the last year alone, the center created 1850 different color panels, more than 500 of which adorn the walls. The16 production machines at the GCDC allow for an infinite number of finishing solutions. In the past, our collaboration with Sherwin-Williams has yielded colors such as Featherstone, North Sea, and Clove.

Each year, we have a review and planning meeting at the center to keep our color palette current with design trends and market demands. This means adding fresh colors to our product line and retiring colors that are no longer fashionable. This September, Stan Tidwell and Jaime Foster attended the Finish Review at the GCDC. The Sherwin-Williams team provided expert design insight, guiding us toward colors that work well for cabinetry finishes and will remain ‘current’ for years to come. We look forward to unveiling the fruits of that meeting in the coming months.

Factory Processes

Details are everything. Not only does Sherwin-Williams work to create winning color schemes for home cabinets, they also provide support for every step of the actual finishing process. Their on-site technical representatives assist with the implementation of new products in the finishing process. We explored all facets of the factory process from the number of coats to the thickness of the finish to sheen levels and application techniques. Partnering with Sherwin-Williams helps us to ensure that all the vital aspects – line efficiency, performance, aesthetics, and value – are the best that they can be.

Environmentally Friendly

KCMA Environmental Stewardship ProgramWoodmont Cabinetry is dedicated to respecting the environment and proud to boast the KCMA’s Environmental Stewardship Certification. Sherwin-Williams, whose company-wide motto is “Cover the Earth”, shares this reverence for nature. Each year, Woodmont and Sherwin-Williams work together to reduce emissions and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Sherwin-Williams also has a Design Engineering Team that works with clients to perform environmental audits. These audits ensure that companies are meeting (or, in our case – exceeding) their sustainability goals.

Stay tuned… we look forward to sharing the results of this year’s annual color review in 2018!
